#PrideAtWork

Call to Action to Make Workplaces Intersectional and Inclusive

With Pride Month 2020 coming to an end, we want to take a moment to reflect on the ways in which workplaces can do more than donning the pride flag or simply talking about affirmative action.

The pandemic has forced organisations to (re) focus working strategies to the online space. With that in mind, we at Gender at Work have been reflecting on how to truly crowdsource feedback from different communities, and build a work environment that is more welcoming of people that exist beyond heteronormative binaries.

We are excited to launch our social media campaign ‘#PrideAtWork’. The campaign is focused on learning, and together building a dialogue on what queering workspaces looks like. While transforming organizational culture takes time, every organization can start by making changes in their policies. We hope that this campaign will encourage organizations to take concrete actions on developing policies and practices that support LGBTQI inclusion.

During the six day long campaign, we will share daily prompts around six themes: 1) Prevention of Discrimination and Harassment at the workplace 2) Sensitization around Pronouns, Slurs and Gender Neutral Language 3) Pinkwashing and Tokenism 4) Infrastructure and Physical Workspaces 5) Gender Expression and 6) Mental Health and Wellbeing of Queer People.

To that end, we have created a social media toolkit, with predesigned graphics templates that would facilitate every participant in their listing down of recommendations based on the prompt for the day. We invite LGTQIA+ people with other intersecting identities to share stories, experiences, learnings, and recommendations to facilitate a dialogue on making workplaces more intersectional and inclusive.
